Breaking Barriers: Understanding Racial Discrimination

What is Racial Discrimination? Does it really affect one’s life? Racial discrimination is more than a social issue; it is a barrier to justice, equality, and the fundamental rights every human being deserves. For some, this social issue destroys someone’s confidence, mental health, and even their life in general. These kinds of social issues usually restrict someone’s opportunity in life like job opportunity wherein some companies don’t accept these applicants just because of their race. What can we do to stop that? There are many ways to lessen this kind of dilemma that we have in our society, but we will never have a solution to stop it. There are three major campaigns for racial discrimination in history (The Nazi Nuremberg Laws and the Holocaust, Apartheid, The Jim Crow Era). These campaigns started years ago and until now we still cannot figure out the right solution to stop this social problem. What are the impacts of Racial Discrimination? It causes a lot of impacts and consequences. These impacts are not only about physical aspects but also mentally and socially. It also affects someone’s physical health if it occurs severely. There are many people there that are having mental health issues because of racial discrimination. They just want to live normally just like everyone else but there are really people there that are not thinking straight and just let their words destroy someone’s precious life. How can people be so cruel with one another when they are just the same human beings? Maybe because some people think about themselves only and they don’t care if they hurt other people. Words are as powerful as a knife.. It can cause a lot of pain when they are thrown to other people. Race has no color.. We should look at one another fairly and with justice.

My own take about this social issue: If you discriminate based on skin color or country of origin, it makes others feel bad. If I witness discrimination, I will go and help; if I experience racism, I will tell my teacher or parents and ask for help Racial discrimination affects people by making school life difficult and disrupting their relationships. Emotions grow more and more hurtful. The most common examples we can see are skin color, country of origin, and so on. The reason the Six Continents engage in racism is that they do not respect other cultures and are trapped in prejudice and stereotypes. The first thing I can do to reduce racism is for people of new minority, immigrant, and diverse backgrounds to listen to voices of empathy regarding the discrimination they have experienced. Second, join civic groups or campaigns that support equality, or stand in solidarity with voices opposing racism. Finally, examine whether your workplace or school’s alumni association have policies that respect diversity, and whether you can propose or support the introduction of anti-discrimination or diversity programs
